Description :- This painting vividly captures the iconic battle of Goddess Durga and Mahishasura, rendered in the vibrant and detailed Pattachitra style — a traditional art form from Odisha, known for its mythological themes, intricate detailing, and bold colors.
At the center stands Devi Durga, powerful and radiant, seated upon her vahana (vehicle) — the majestic lion. She is adorned in a flowing red saree with golden motifs, symbolizing energy (shakti), valor, and divine femininity.
With ten arms radiating outward like a halo, she wields a variety of weapons—each gifted by the gods:
Trishul (trident), chakra (discus), bow and arrow, sword, mace, and conch, among others.
Each hand represents a form of divine strength, justice, and protection.
At her feet lies the buffalo demon Mahishasura, part green demon, part buffalo, his face contorted in defiance and pain. Durga pins him down with graceful might, driving her trident into his chest, symbolizing the triumph of good over evil.
Above her, the celestial umbrella-like motifs emphasize her divinity and cosmic significance.
